Our Faith & Values

We Believe…

…in a God who loves, accepts, and includes all people. Experiencing and expressing this love are central to all that we do. As our Presiding Bishop Michael Curry has said, “If it’s not about love, it’s not about God.”

…that the vows we make at baptism are central to our faith and practice. Therefore, we seek to serve Christ in all persons, to love our neighbors as ourselves, to strive for justice and peace among all people, and to respect the dignity of every human being.

….that Scripture, Human Reason, and Christian Tradition are all equally important ways we find God and develop our faith. Therefore, we use prayers, music, and liturgies that connect us to these and other ways of knowing.

…that faith and doubt often work together as we strive to grow in faith. We welcome questions, and those who ask them, expecting that our spirits will be strengthened by inquiry and doubt. As the familiar Franciscan Blessing begins, “God, grant us discomfort with easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships, so that we can live from deep within our hearts.”

.…that praying shapes believing. Therefore we pray using inclusive words both ancient and modern, so that we might be believe in a God, present in both history and our modern world, who welcomes us into Their love.

…in the real presence of Christ in the sharing of bread and wine. All who are drawn to that are welcome to share at God’s table.
